Need some advice...guys, what do you think?

So, I recently got out of a long term relationship (about 4-1/2 weeks ago), and tried to go on a date last night. Didn't go so well, so I met up with some friends afterward at the local ';watering hole,'; and this guy, Steve, was there. Steve and I have known each other for years, and we flirt all the time, but he thinks I'm just playing around with him, and I can't take it any further. I have very little confidence in myself, and I don't exactly know what to do. I find him very attractive, and hes a very nice guy...how do I suggest trying to take this to a different level, without making it awkward? And, if I do attempt to take this there, and it doesn't work, what is that going to do to our friends? My brother is his best friend, and even though my brother says he's cool with it...I don't know if it would be so cool if something was actually going on. I'm not trying to marry this guy, I just think he could be fun to kick it...suggstions?Need some advice...guys, what do you think?
