You may be right about the whole thing with him just trying to act cool. But you or your friend need to talk to him when he is not around his friends because if you do he just might actually say something that he feels. And he won't be pressured to say something cool because he is in front of his friends. And for the texting thing. Well I don't know if you should ask his friend for his number. I think when or if you get him alone with your friend or yourself then you probably ask him if he would give you his number. I think if I was a guy and I liked someone and they liked me then I think I would feel weird if someone contacted me without me telling them my number.
